Frequently asked questions

Can I pay in installments?
Yes. MMDC offers three payment plans: Pay in Full (no interest), Bigger Start Lower Interest (40-30-30 split), and Smaller Start (20-40-40 split). Use the [tuition calculator](/tuition-fee-calculator) to see your exact payment breakdown.
Can I really study while working full-time?
Yes — that's who MMDC was built for. Classes are online, most are asynchronous (you study when it fits your schedule), and you need about 15–20 hours per week. Most working students study after their shift or on weekends. No commute means more time for learning.
Can I switch from a certification to a college degree later?
Yes. MMDC has a ladder system: certifications can count as credits toward a related college degree. For example, the Web Development Fundamentals cert can give you credit toward BSIT Software Development. This means you can start small and build up.
Do I need a tech background for the BSIT programs?
No. All MMDC BSIT programs start from the basics. You don't need any prior coding or tech experience. The only requirements are a high school diploma, a willingness to learn, and a laptop with internet access.
How are certifications different from college degrees?
Certifications are short (3–4 months), self-paced, and cost ₱990/month. They focus on one specific skill — like social media marketing or IT support. College degrees are 3-year programs that give you a full bachelor's degree (BSIT or BSBA) with broader, deeper coverage of a field.
How do I enroll in a certification?
It's simple: create an account on the MMDC portal, choose your certification, pay the ₱990 monthly fee, and start learning immediately. No documents, no entrance exam, no waiting for a new term. See [certification admissions](/admissions/certifications).
How do I know my child is actually learning?
MMDC students complete projects, not just exams. They build portfolios of real work — apps, business plans, marketing campaigns — that demonstrate their skills. Parents can also access grade reports through the student portal (with your child's permission).
How do online classes work at MMDC?
You log into the learning platform, watch video lessons, join live discussions (optional, recorded), complete projects and quizzes, and submit assignments online. Most content is asynchronous — you study when it fits your schedule. Live sessions are scheduled in the evenings to accommodate work.
How long does a college degree take?
MMDC college degrees are designed to be completed in 3 years (9 terms). Each term runs about 10 weeks, with short breaks between terms. This is faster than the traditional 4-year college timeline because we run year-round instead of following the traditional 2-semester schedule.
How much does college actually cost?
At ₱1,435 per unit, a full load of 15 units costs ₱21,525 per term before discounts. With the automatic Asenso discount (20% off), that drops to ₱17,220 per term. Use the [calculator](/tuition-fee-calculator) to see your exact numbers.
Is an online degree respected by employers?
Your diploma says Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna — the same as any MMCL graduate. It doesn't say 'online.' Employers care about the school's reputation and your skills, not whether you sat in a classroom. MMCL has been producing hired graduates for over 100 years.
Is MMDC CHED-recognized?
Yes. MMDC is fully recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Our programs go through the same accreditation process as any traditional college in the Philippines.
Is there an entrance exam?
No. MMDC does not require an entrance exam for college or certification programs. We believe your potential isn't measured by a single test score. You just need a high school diploma and a device with internet access.
My child works. Can they really handle both?
Yes. MMDC was designed for working students. The 15–20 hours per week is realistic, and content is mostly asynchronous — your child studies when it fits their schedule, not the other way around. Many of our students work full-time, study at night, and still have weekends for family.
What if I can't afford a laptop?
MMDC has a laptop lending program that lets you borrow a device for the duration of your program. There are also financing options through Bukas.ph and GCash (coming soon) that can help cover device costs. Talk to the registrar about your situation.
What's the Asenso Scholarship?
Asenso is an automatic 20% discount on tuition for every MMDC student. Despite the name 'scholarship,' it's really a discount — you don't need to apply, and you don't need to maintain grades to keep it. It's applied automatically to your billing.
Whose name is on my diploma?
Your diploma will say Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (MMCL). MMDC is a unit of MMCL, so your degree is issued by the same institution — a respected name in Philippine education for over 100 years.
